My background – Head of Benefits, Revenues & Advice Services at one of the UK’s largest councils; I acted as local government advisor to the Housing Benefit Standing Committee, Westminster, for many years acted as a welfare rights advocate, and tutored on HB/Rent Arrears issues on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Housing. I currently operate HB & UC Advice & Advocacy, along with my colleagues, acting as a representative of tenants, Private Landlords and Housing Associations in Housing Benefit negotiations with councils and, rather uniquely, represent you in disputes before First and Upper-tier tribunals. I also write regular articles on HB/UC/LHA-related topics and respond to landlords’ queries and complaints via various web-based forums, including this website.
I was one of the principal witnesses at the DWP Select Committee, Westminster hearings, relating to Local Housing Allowance in January 2010, where some of my recommendations were adopted as “good practice” in subsequently produced DWP Guidance.
My colleagues all have a background in Housing Management and Welfare Rights.
Together, we have the knowledge and experience of dealing with the DWP so are well placed to deliver custom training as well as consultancy and advocacy services.
